NASA’s Europa Clipper Uses Mars to Go the Distance
On March 1, NASA’s Europa Clipper will streak just 550 miles (884 kilometers) above the surface of Mars for what’s known as a gravity assist — a maneuver to bend the spacecraft’s trajectory and position it for a critical leg of its long voyage to the Jupiter system. ReadMore @nasa-jpl

- #description :: The twin Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft are exploring where nothing from Earth has flown before. Continuing on their more-than-40-year journey since their 1977 launches, they each are much farther away from Earth and the sun than Pluto. In August 2012, Voyager 1 made the historic entry into interstellar space, the region between stars, filled with material ejected by the death of nearby stars millions of years ago. Voyager 2 entered interstellar space on November 5, 2018 and scientists hope to learn more about this region. Dear Team! Its Rashard, i was eagerly prepping for the flyby on March25 it was March5 idk if the spacetravel time changed a we trying to keep up with Esa Hera Thos CraZy BriTS n Shit!
but i got excited to see the article about the test image coming back bc I learned JPL more! Like when we get there We know its firing on all 8 cylinders! Im also excited to know what Jamie taught me about the Mars Relay Network was true! I was looking for data from EuropaClipper for like a month, and found nothing but PDS BUilD Pics but is ee there is more to launch than building the rig…
Each camera has a cover to protect its sensitive detectors from the Sun while the spacecraft moves through the inner solar system, so the test images only show low-level variations in the sensitivity of the detector system. This image, taken by the narrow-angle camera (or NAC), has been enhanced to show more subtle variations in brightness. The pattern shown here matched similar test images taken before launch, confirming the camera is working as expected. Mars Relay Network

Using BASH ::
The –posix option caught my attention this morning. I wonder how it will effect my approach to The Unix Programming Environment… I think i can make bash.md and start chronicling my growth with the shell. It was my first shell. it came bundled with the RRedHat Linux Version then carried by BestBuy. Fedora Core 1 at Tuscon Unified School District was my first professional jesture at using bash. I always knew that to be a good linux user at work, i have to use it as my primary desktop. Tgat was the settinbg of the time. Windows was important because of the Authentication Schemes you needed to login. How can i do both? in that era DualBoot. Today it dont matter as much bc most hardware you put your hands on has multithreading and virtualization extensions enabled by default.

When the War Department was reorganized on 9 March 1942, the Signal Corps became one of the technical services in the Services of Supply (later Army Service Forces). Its organized components served both the Army Ground Forces and the Army Air Forces.
The Army Chief Signal Officer (CSO) was responsible for establishing and maintaining communications service schools for officers and enlisted soldiers, ranging in qualifications from those holding doctorates to functional illiterates.

Galileo Project Information
Scientific results of the Galileo mission (so far)
A comprehensive list of the science results of Galileo would be longer than space permits. Here, then, is a short list of some important discoveries (in no particular order).
- The discovery of a satellite (Dactyl) of an asteroid (Ida).
- Confirmation of the existence of a huge ancient impact basin in the southern part of the Moon’s far side (inferred from Apollo data but never before mapped).
-
Evidence of more extensive lunar volcanism than previously thought.
- Jovian wind speeds in excess of 600 kilometers per hour (> 400 mph) were detected.
-
Far less water was detected in Jupiter’s atmosphere than estimated from earlier Voyager observations and from models of the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impact.
- Helium abundance in Jupiter is very nearly the same as its abundance in the Sun (24% compared to 25%).
- Extensive resurfacing of Io’s surface due to continuing volcanic activity since the Voyagers flew by in 1979.
- Preliminary data support the tentative identification of intrinsic magnetic fields for both Io and Ganymede.
-
Evidence for liquid water ocean under Europa’s surface.

Why are they crashing the Galileo satellite?
The Galileo satellite was launched from Space Shuttle Atlantis during the STS-34 mission in 1989. It took five years to reach Jupiter, where it has remained for the past 9 years. At one point, it released a small probe which dove into the Jovian atmosphere and sent back valuable data to scientists about the composition, speed, density, and temperature of our solar system’s largest planet. Galileo has now completed 34 orbits of Jupiter and is running low on the fuel it needs to remain in contact with scientists on Earth. The decision was made to have the spacecraft plunge into the dense layers of Jupiter’s atmosphere on September 20, 2003. Friction between the satellite and the atmospheric gases will cause the craft to be crushed and start to burn. In the end, it will get so hot and feel so much atmospheric pressure that it will totally disintegrate and vaporize.
The Galileo satellite collected data for 6 years longer than planned. In addition to the information collected about the atmosphere of Jupiter, it detected evidence of underground salt water oceans on Jupiter’s moons Europa, Ganymede and Callisto, and examined the active volcanoes on the moon Io. In fact, Galileo’s own discoveries doomed it to the fate it will have this month. Given the environment found on Europa, scientists feared that if they just left the satellite in orbit, it might one day collide with that moon and contaminate it with microbes from Earth. They felt it was a chance they could not take. STARCHilD
PIA23616: Galileo in High Bay 1
White walls and scaffolding had become a common sight in the High Bay 1 clean room in JPL’s Spacecraft Assembly Facility by the time the Galileo orbiter was being built. This photo from Nov. 1, 1984 shows that gowning requirements had also become more complex.
Note the fully-opened high-gain antenna; an emblem on the clean room’s Wall of Fame depicts it partially opened, as it was at Jupiter.
